Roodlof (Red Chicory)

Two heads of red chicory rest one upon the other, white hearts edged with deep magenta veins, doubled in the soft reflection. The crisp, faintly waxed leaves are caught with cool precision. A plain winter vegetable turned into a study of colour and curve.
