Rozenbottels (Rose Hips)

A white enamel bowl brimming with rose hips, their orange-red skins still trailing dried sepals, with a dozen more tumbled across a lace-trimmed cloth. Each little fruit is freckled and slightly wrinkled, caught at the moment it begins to soften. The white-on-white cloth lets the scattered colour do all the singing.
