Stilleven met petroleumkan en nautilus (Still Life with an Oil Can and Nautilus)

A white enamel oil can lettered Petroleum, a half litre jug and a nautilus shell on cutwork lace, almost a study in white. The matt glaze, the iridescent shell and the cut linen each hold the eye through faint warm and cool shifts. The nautilus was once a treasured luxury, here at home among kitchen tin.
