Platte perziken (Flat Peaches)

A little heap of flat peaches, one set apart in front, their downy skins blushing from yellow into red. Peaches were a painter's favourite because that ripening skin tests the touch, and here the soft fuzz almost dissolves into its own reflection. Ripe summer, held for a moment.
