Platte perziken (Flat Peaches)

Five flat peaches, their squashed shapes glowing red over yellow, clustered on a pale ledge. Wiedijk works the velvety skin until you can almost feel the down on it, each blush melting softly into the next. Pure ripe colour, painted until it nearly tastes of summer.
