Stilleven met bramen (Still Life with Blackberries)

A green bowl of blackberries sits beside a white enamel mug and a brown apothecary bottle labelled ACETONUM, a few berries strayed onto the lace cloth. The painted lettering echoes the old trompe-l'oeil cartellino, the slip of writing slid into a picture. Against the cool ground, the berries glisten almost black, dark and ripe.
