Space Odyssy

A full creation myth in one swirling scene. A golden nebula gives birth to figures and animals, a deer, coiling serpents, a reclining woman at its centre, while at the right a man turns into a zebra-limbed centaur, caught mid-change in the literal sense Ovid meant by metamorphosis. A small black-clad astronaut watches from below, the one modern note, the space age looking back at Genesis. Wiedijk paints the birth of everything and then plants a tiny spacefarer at its edge, so that the newest kind of human and the oldest story ever told end up sharing a single sky.
